Before the fundraise, find the evidence

Most founders do not begin with a funding problem. They begin with a clarity problem.
Capital does not repair an idea that has not survived contact with the world. Before approaching investors, a founder should be able to show what has been built, what has been learned, and why this problem deserves to exist as a company.
The question becomes sharper for hardware and other physical-world businesses: what would the world lose if this were never built? If the honest answer is nothing, a stronger deck will not rescue the idea.
The source of capital matters too. Venture funds and individual angels do not operate on the same clock. Taking money means taking on its time horizon, return expectations, and eventual pressure for an outcome.
AI can be useful before the first investor conversation. A founder can use several models to challenge assumptions, expose missing evidence, and test whether the argument survives basic scrutiny. That does not validate the business. It makes weak reasoning visible earlier.
The useful distinction is between the romance of appearing to be a founder and the work of understanding a problem deeply enough to build evidence around it.
Investors may hear the idea first. What they are evaluating is whether the founder understands how the world around that idea works.
