On December 20, 2008, I was thinking carefully about the design of a business card: its type, spacing, paper, and the professional identity it was meant to carry.
That concern was not foolish. A card was a practical interface for an introduction. But I was asking a small object to do too much.
Paper gets lost. Digital profiles change. Neither can substitute for work that gives someone a reason to remember you.
If I designed a card now, it would probably contain little more than a name and a useful path back to the work. The card can open the door. What follows must carry the identity.
