The Destination Strategy: Architecting Gravity Wells

Last revised

A business becomes a destination when people choose it for an experience or capability they cannot easily obtain elsewhere.

The example that interested me was Amrik Sukhdev: a roadside dhaba that became known beyond the convenience of its location. The source attributes that change to standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and respect, but the specific history and business figures require verification before publication.

The practical questions remain useful:

  1. Where does the industry neglect a stakeholder’s dignity or time?
  2. Which improvement would create real value rather than decorative luxury?
  3. Does the business depend too heavily on one platform, algorithm, location, or referral source?
  4. What capability would give people a reason to seek it out directly?

Distinctiveness is earned through repeated experience. It is not a law of gravity or a guarantee of loyalty.
