The Blind Spot: The Engineering of Relevance

Last revised

Ignorance is not the source of every project failure or lost opportunity. It is an unavoidable condition that becomes risky when we hide it, perform it, or refuse to investigate what matters.

A relevance review can ask:

  1. Which important belief am I holding with more certainty than the evidence supports?
  2. What contrary evidence or qualified perspective should I examine?
  3. When I say “I do not know,” what decision actually requires an answer?
  4. Which knowledge needs updating because the field changed, not merely because 6 months passed?
  5. What uncertainty should remain explicit rather than be patched with premature confidence?

Blind spots are not technical debt that can always be closed. The goal is to make consequential gaps easier to discover and less dangerous to admit.
