Funding and valuation can matter. They can buy time, capability, distribution, and room to experiment.
They are still not the work.

The distinction becomes difficult because financing events are unusually visible. A round has a number, a valuation, investors, photographs, and an announcement. It gives the company and the founder a moment that other people can easily recognize as progress.
The operating work is less theatrical.
Does the company understand a problem worth solving? Are customers choosing the product, using it, and returning? Can the team learn from failure without hiding it? Is the business becoming more capable, or merely better funded?
Capital can strengthen all of those things. It can also postpone the moment when weak assumptions have to meet reality.
This is not an argument against raising money. Some businesses need substantial capital before they can produce meaningful evidence. Infrastructure, research, manufacturing, regulated industries, and network businesses may not fit a romantic bootstrapping story. Even a modest software company may use outside capital well when timing matters.
The point is narrower. Funding is an input. Valuation is a negotiated estimate. Neither one proves that the company has created durable value.
The opposite mistake is also possible. Refusing capital can become its own identity performance. A founder may celebrate independence while starving a good opportunity of the resources it needs.
The useful question is not whether funding is good or bad. It is what the capital allows the company to learn, build, or reach that it could not responsibly do otherwise.
That question keeps financing attached to purpose. It also makes the trade visible: money creates options, but it brings expectations, dilution, governance, and a clock.
After the announcement, the operating questions remain. What became possible? What obligation did the money create? What evidence should exist before the next round is needed?
Applause can mark the beginning of a new phase. It should not be confused with the result.
