The Law of Systemic Decoupling

Last revised

In 2008, I wrote “it happens” as a way to soften rejection and remember that another opportunity might exist.

I would not now describe losing a job as the universe returning agency. It can bring financial risk, grief, anger, and consequences that should not be clinically detached from.

Still, rejection is not a complete verdict on a person.

  1. Understand the stated reason and what evidence supports it.
  2. Separate a specific mismatch or performance issue from total identity.
  3. Decide what should be learned, challenged, repaired, or left behind.
  4. Attend to immediate material needs.
  5. Look for the next role or form of work without assuming one is waiting.

“It happens” can create enough room to move. It should not erase what happened.
