In 2013, I used the mirror as a prompt for reflection beyond appearance.
The metaphor remains useful if it stays modest. A mirror does not diagnose a life, happiness is not a health metric, and discomfort does not automatically require a hard pivot.
Reflection can ask:
- What matters to me now?
- How are work, relationships, time, attention, and money serving it?
- Where do I see a repeated gap between intention and action?
- What is one proportionate correction I can test?
Rumination and reflection are not the same. Useful reflection produces clearer evidence or a deliberate next step while leaving room for uncertainty and support from other people.
